What is a GFCI receptacle?
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) receptacle is one that is designed to keep you protected from a potentially lethal electric shock in areas subject to moisture such as bathrooms, garages, or outdoors. They work by continuously monitoring the balance of current between hot and neutral wires, shutting down power instantly if a ground fault is detected, such as when a powered device is dropped in the water.
